Coventry & North Warwickshire PCSG - Open Meeting

Thursday, 16th May 2024

Coventry & North Warwickshire Open Meeting - held at Broadstreet RFC at 7:30 pm on Thursday 16th May

We were delighted to welcome Mohit Mitra and his colleague from iMedicare. They came to describe their products to help with erectile dysfunction (ED) and urinary incontinence. Erectile dysfunction is the inability to engage in sexual relations with your partner.

Erectile Dysfunction

The key product in this area is the SOMAerect Vacuum Pump. This non-invasive device is designed to aid the flow of blood into the penis thereby producing an erection. It is important in what is referred to as penile rehabilitation: this is therapy to help recover sexual function particularly after radical treatment for prostate cancer. The pump can complement the use of drugs such as Viagra, Cialis, designed to encourage erections.

Urinary Incontinence

Mohit showed us a number of products to help with urinary incontinence. These included:

  • Specially designed underwear with in-built pads which can be washed and re-used.
  • A variety of discrete collection bags to temporally hold leaked urine.
  • An external band/cuff to restrict the urethra and thereby minimise leakage.

Product Availability

The iMedicare ED products can be obtained via prescription from your GP, though this may require endorsement from UHCW Urology clinics. Sarah Roth and Debbie Shreeve are the relevant CNSs. See following UHCW link for more information re ED.

Product details can also be found at www.imedicare.co.uk or www.mypelvichealth.co.uk

Contact with Urology at UHCW

Mohit is in contact with the Urology CNSs at UHCW (but not with GEH). He has requested space to run a regular clinic to enable him to have personal appointments with men affected by ED and urinary incontinence. However, apparently there is currently no suitable room available.

Next Steps

In the absence of iMedicare clinics, Mohit is happy to be contacted directly so that he can arrange a personal appointment when he’s in the area. Mohit can be contacted via email at mohit@imedicare.co.uk

CNWPCSG has a small stock of iMedicare product leaflets available via the Secretary.

Prostate Health Awareness Events

Our next Prostate Health Awareness event will be held on Saturday 12th April at the Mary Forryan Centre, leicester Road, Hinckley, LE10 1LW. As usual we continue to use the Graham Fulford online booking system. As a result our events run smoothly with minimal queuing and adequate social distancing. See Coming Events for more detail.
