PCUK Need Volunteers to take part in their Late Stage Diagnosis Study
Monday, 1st April 2019
Dear Support Groups,
This is a last call for volunteers to take part in our late stage diagnosis study. We’re looking for another 5 – 6 volunteers to help us with this important study!
Point of contact is: martin.abrams@prostatecanceruk.org
Prostate Cancer UK is inviting men diagnosed with late stage (Stage 4) prostate cancer to help us in our mission to tame prostate cancer.
As part of this, research is a vital tool in helping to understand the experiences of men. Delving deep into patient experiences helps us understand why things happen and what needs to improve in order to create better outcomes for men. To reduce the number of men diagnosed late, it is important to have a better understanding of the circumstances around this in order to develop interventions that aim to prevent late stage diagnosis.
Your input into this research will be invaluable.
You will be asked to take part in a telephone interview lasting between 60 and 90 minutes and will be asked a series of questions about your past experiences. Some of the questions will relate specifically to your health, prostate cancer diagnosis, and the events leading up to and following your diagnosis. This means that some of the discussion may be of a sensitive nature, so when deciding on whether to take part, do think whether you would feel comfortable in answering questions about this issue. Any answers you give as part of your interview will be anonymised and you do not have to answer a question if you do not feel comfortable doing so.
The data and findings will be used by the researchers to write a research report and by Prostate Cancer UK to inform our wider work around late stage diagnosis including efforts to work with local and national health bodies to develop interventions aimed at preventing late stage diagnosis.
If you would like to take part in the study, please read the attached information and answer the screening questions and send them back to martin.abrams@prostatecanceruk.org and we will contact you to let you know whether you are eligible for the study and to confirm you are happy for your details to be passed on to the research team. For your time would like to offer you a £30 M&S voucher for taking part in the telephone interview..
Thank you in advance. This will make a difference to men’s lives.
Kind regards,
Susan
