UHCW Prostate Cancer Support Group
Monday, 5th June 2017
This meeting, held in the Faith Centre at the Walsgrave Hospital, was well attended with 26 men and their wives/partners.
Helen Ure spoke to us about The Hummingbird Centre which she set up initially in Rugby and now in Coventry. The centre provides facilities and events for the benefit of people affected by cancer. It is a place where such people can meet informally or in groups. It offers counselling, alternative therapies, and courses - as well as acting as a drop-in centre.
After Helen's talk, we split into four groups and discussed why men might be reluctant to visit their GP, and how these inhibitions might be overcome. It got us all talking, and provoked some lively discussions!
Thanks to Helen, and resident CNSs, Mandinika, Margo, and Lorraine.
Our next Prostate Health Awareness event will be held on Saturday 15th June at the Coventry Sphinx Sports and Social Club, Siddeley Ave, Coventry, CV3 1WA. As usual we continue to use the Graham Fulford online booking system. As a result our events run smoothly with minimal queuing and adequate social distancing. See Coming Events for more detail.
