Coventry & North Warwickshire PCSG - Open Meeting
Thursday, 15th February 2024
Thursday 15th February at 7:30 at Broadstreet RFC, Rugby Road, Binley Woods, Coventry.
Our February meeting was devoted to the benefits of Acupuncture. We were delighted to welcome Michelle Venter who has a well-established practice in Leamington and Victoria Horsley practicing in Coventry. Michelle and Victoria described the essentials of acupuncture and associated treatments. Their talk was well illustrated including samples of the (very fine) needles used in acupuncture. They also had a well-formed manikin to show the network of interconnecting blood vessels in the human body. They described the multiple conditions that can be treated and relieved with acupuncture. While pain and stress relief were the most significant uses of acupuncture, it is applicable to a much broader range of conditions. For example, to relieve the symptoms of cancer treatments such as fatigue, hot flushes, and nausea. Both Michelle and Victoria are keen to work with men with prostate cancer in the relief of disease and treatment symptoms.
Michelle and Victoria's talk prompted many questions and lead to an interesting and lively discussion. For instance, a couple of conditions specific to members were plantar fasciitis, and back pain – both of which can be effectively treated with acupuncture.
Michelle and Victoria are qualified members of the British Acupuncture Council (the recognised licensing authority for acupuncturists).
