Prostate Cancer Referrals Drop by 50% owing to Coronavirus
Friday, 11th September 2020
The Daily Mail reports "Prostate cancer referrals have halved since the beginning of lockdown as thousands of men put off seeing their GP".
27,000 fewer men have been referred to a specialist with suspected cases compared to the same period last year, according to analysis of offical NHS data by Prostate Cancer UK. The Mail continues "Experts say the delays mean around 3,500 men with advanced prostate cancer have not yet been diagnosed, putting their lives at risk".

The Daily Mail is following up this article and is looking for men willing to discuss their situation. They are running a piece next Tuesday 15th September in their Good Health section about the news that prostate cancer referrals dropped to the lowest levels for a decade.
They are looking for two case studies who are both willing to be photographed and use real names to talk about their experiences:
- Someone who has had their diagnosis delayed because of lockdown (eg their biopsy/scan was delayed because of lockdown) AND their prognosis is now worse (or they believe it to be - maybe their cancer is advanced);
- Someone whose treatment was delayed because of lockdown ( eg they didn't get their chemo or radiotherapy ) AND their prognosis is now worse as a result of the delay.
If you know anybody who would be willing to help, please email Siobhan Connor as soon as you can.
