Great improvement in mpMRI provision but there’s more to do
In a message to Support Group members, PCUK says:
You may have seen in the news that Prostate Cancer UK is publishing Freedom of Information data that shows that many areas across the UK are now providing multiparametric Magnetic Resonance Imaging (mpMRI) scans.
However, with prostate cancer now the most diagnosed cancer in England and likely to soon be the same across the UK, we want to make sure that health services are equipped to meet this increased demand.
Giving men an mpMRI scan prior to biopsy greatly increases diagnostic accuracy. It also allows some men to be safely ruled out of having a biopsy. Over the past three years we have been instrumental in achieving substantial progress in the implementation of mpMRI before biopsy across the UK. That’s why we’ve now developed the tools to support radiology departments to make the case for the resources they’ll need now and in the future. That way we can make sure that every man who needs an mpMRI scan can get access.

Help your local area plan for future provision of mpMRI. Contact your local health decision maker now and share our planning tool so they can calculate the resources needed in your area over the coming years and can use it to get the resources they’ll need to meet future demand.
