With the help of funding from our Group, the Phlebotomy Department at Leighton Hospital introduced the idea of using a special brightly decorated and equipped room to offer an ‘out of public hours’ clinic for children and adults with learning difficulties. This has been so successful and well received that the family of one patient nominated the clinic at Leighton Hospital for a national Nursing Award in the ‘Learning Disabilities Nursing’ category. Although they did not win, their attendance at the dinner in London in October, helped them to spread the word about their work.
The Group has donated three specialist phlebotomy chairs to departments within Leighton Hospital. Two will be used by Phlebotomy staff to enhance the service that they offer in both the main department and also the Macmillan Unit. The other specialist chair will be used in the Medical Imaging department to assist with X-rays, CT and MRI scans. Pictured with one of the new chairs already in use in Phlebotomy are Emma Richardson from Mid Cheshire Hospital Charity, Donna George the Manager of Phlebotomy and Clare Cree the PACS Administrator/Office Services Manager in Medical Imaging.

PCUK have asked us if we would circulate this request to take part in a survey. I am aware this is to improve the services PCUK offer to those supporting prostate cancer patients but I am also aware that many of our groups make use of PCUK services, hence our agreement to help with the survey.

Nick, Roy & Dave again completed a Canal Cycle Ride in August to raise money for Leighton Hospital Prostate Cancer Support Group. After taking their bikes by train up to Kendal in Cumbria, they cycled back along the towpaths of the Lancaster Canal, Leeds & Liverpool Canal to eventually join up with the Cheshire Ring and return back to Middlewich. Their week long adventure raised a massive total of over one thousand three hundred pounds in sponsorship. We would like to express a huge thank you to the boys for their efforts.
