Inserting an Anchor
Anchors are used when you have a page that takes up more than a screen and you want to refer to a part of the screen that is not being displayed.
As a rule, if you've got a page long enough to merit inserting anchors (unless it's a very specific instance, such as a link to a contact form at the bottom of a page linked to a call to action on the home page) you're probably better off splitting it into multiple pages.
However, should you wish to insert an anchor, the way you do it depends on whether it's on the same page or on a different page.
Same Page Anchor
- Click on the location where you want the anchor.
- Click on the Anchor icon in the editor. A window will open for you to give the anchor a name. Create the anchor name and make a note of what you have called it (note that you can't have names with spaces in). A small anchor image will appear in the location you have chosen. If you do need to find out the name of the anchor again, you can click on it and then click the anchor icon.
- Now highlight the text that you want the reader to click on to link to the anchor you have created. Click on the Insert an External Link icon and the window below opens.
4. As well as the Link URL field which you use for inserting an external link, there is also Anchors. Select the anchor that you have created.
Different Page Anchor
(Stages 1 and 2 are the same as for Same Page Anchor but are repeated below).
- Navigate to the page where the text is that you want the reader to click on to link to the anchor you have created.
- Highlight the text on that page but this time click on the Insert an Internal Link icon and select the page where the anchor is.
- Once you have inserted the internal link, the insert an external link icon will be highlighted. Click on it and in the Link URL field, add at the end # followed by the name of the anchor. For example, if you have a page called Contact Us and an anchor on that page called Chairman, then the Link URL field will display /contact-us.php and you need to add #Chairman to it making /contact-us.php#Chairman.
