UHCW Support Group
Tuesday, 5th December 2017
This event was well attended, and in addition to the usual hospitality, we were rewarded with mince pies!
We welcomed Sue Boyes who works for Prostate Cancer UK (PC UK); Sue is part of a team dedicated to the development of prostate cancer support groups throughout the country. She gave us an excellent talk in which she emphasised the importance of patient-led support groups, and the benefits of men with prostate cancer getting together to discuss their experiences and provide mutual support. Such groups vary widely in age, size, and ambition from the small and informal to larger groups that also raise money for their local hospital or to create awareness of the risks of prostate cancer. PC UK has a team of people ready to advise and encourage support groups at whatever stage in their development. Sue outlined the ways in which her team supports groups such as ours.
After Sue's talk we split up into small groups to share our various experiences.
The first Prostate Health Awareness event of 2024 will be held on Saturday 9th March at the Mary Forryan Centre, Leicester Road, Hinckley, LE10 1LW. As usual we continue to use the Graham Fulford online booking system. As a result our events run smoothly with minimal queuing and adequate social distancing. See Coming Events for more detail.
